Greeting

T: Good afternoon ! I’m glad to see you . We have guests today. Welcome to our school-gymnasium. We are glad to meet you.  Today we’ll have a Round-table Discussion. We’ll touch on the theme “Kazakhstan at a glance”. I want you to show your knowledge by expressing opinions on the theme. And now let’s speak about our native country, about our Motherland.

There is nothing better and the most expensive in the world  than our Native Land. It gives us wings for flight. It is impossible to choose Native Land.

We know the word  “Motherland”. For Kazakh people it has two meanings. Firstly, it is the place  we were born in.  Then it means the whole country where we  live.

  1. The main part of the discussion

We live in Kazakhstan. It is our Motherland.

Question:  What is Kazakhstan for you?

  1. 1 Sain: We can’t imagine our life without our native town, our nature, our friends. We can say that our native place is all for us . Оur native town and our republic are our  home places. Saying in another word they are our Motherland.

As for me my motherland begins in my own village, in which I have grown up. May be this place is usual and uninteresting for other people, but for me it is the dearest place in the world.

P.2 Daulet:  I love my country.  I think love to Motherland comes to people in different ways. For some people their Motherland begins in the city or village he was born. For other people it is their own village or a house in which they have grown up. Usually this place is “the best place in the world”. My Kazakhstan is the best place for me.

P.3 Gaukhar:  Our country is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We are proud of it.  We are devoted to our Motherland.

P.4 Samat: You can love your country. You can know a lot about the history of your country. But only if you love the culture of your Motherland and are able to see the beauty of your country’s   landscape, you certainly love your country.

Our country has its own national symbols.

Question: Why is it important to have national symbols?

  1. 5 Symbat: I think it is important to have national symbols because it is a sign of independence. National symbols show us the stages of development of our country. We are very proud of our national symbols.

Kazakhstan: The national flag of Kazakhstan is blue. It’s the colour of the cloudless sky, the symbol of peace. The blue colour    corresponds to such human qualities as honesty hope and faithfulness. In the centre of the flag there is the gold sun, the symbol of life, the course of energy. Rays have the form of grain, the symbol of independence, freedom and state power. The yellow ornament “Koshkar mujiz” is the symbol of the Kazakh art.

The National Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan is an image of shanyrak, uyks support by wings of mythical horses. The circle shape of the Emblem is a symbol of life and eternity. The shanyrak  symbolizes the well-being of family, peace and calm.
The colour of the National Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan consists of two colours: gold and  blue. The golden colour corresponds to the light, clear future of the Kazakhstan people, and the blue  colour is a symbol of peace, goodwill, friendship and unity with all people.

We have our national Anthem too. I am very excited  when I hear the National Anthem of my country, because I feel that I’m a small part of my country. Every Monday we begin our lessons by singing our Anthem. It is a tradition of our school.

The world is so wonderful and diverse! What can be greater than to see everything with your own eyes, learn about life, traditions, nature of other countries.

Our Kazakhstan is still a country unexplored. It is so much interesting and unusual! Everyone who visits our country will make a lot of wonderful discoveries. Unforgettable impressions are waiting for those who are interested in modern development of Kazakhstan.

Our republic is an unforgettable one, isn’t it?

P.6 — Sabina:  Yes, it is. I would like to tell you about my country Kazakhstan. I’m very happy that I was born in Kazakhstan.  I love it.  I can’t imagine my life without my country. My republic is very big.  My motherland  has a lot of beautiful places. I enjoyed the nature of Kazakhstan. It is amazing, wonderful and unforgettable. We have got  many big mountains, long lakes, beautiful rivers and endless steppes.

Kazakhstan is an independent Republic. It is situated in the Central Asia. Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan. The territory of Kazakhstan is huge. It is more than 2 million square kilometers.  By its size Kazakhstan is the ninth in the world, after Russia, Canada, China, USA, Brazil, Australia, India and Argentina. Kazakhstan has 14 regions, 84 big cities.

P.7- Ainur:  I want to add that Kazakhstan is a multinational state. Population of Kazakhstan is over 17 million: Kazakh 63,6%, Russian 23,2%, others (over 100 nationalities) 13,2%.
Kazakhstan’s population includes many ethnic groups, they have their own language and culture, traditions and customs.  The largest ethnic groups are Kazakhs and Russians.  More than 130 nations live in Kazakhstan. According to the constitution every nationality can develop its culture in Kazakhstan. All people of  Kazakhstan have equal rights and duties.

  1. 8- Adil: As for me Kazakhstan is the best country in the world. It is my Motherland. The official language of Kazakhstan is Kazakh. State organizations and local governmental bodies also use Russian. The government encourages citizens to study and speak several languages. Everybody has the right to use their native language and the right to choose their language for communication, study and work. This contributes people of various nationalities to live  and work peacefully in the country. We study 3 languages in our school-gymnasium: Kazakh, Russian and English. I know Russian and Kazakh languages very well and  I study English with great pleasure. English is necessary for my future education.

P.9 Timur:  I know that Kazakhstan has a  continental climate.  It means that it is warm in  spring  and  it is cold in winter. Kazakhstan is  rich in natural resources. In short, 99 of the 110 elements of the Mendeleev Periodic Table are found in the depths of Kazakhstan. The depth of Kazakhstan is full of iron and gold, coal, nickel and raw materials. Also Kazakhstan is rich in mineral resources. There is a solid base for the development of heavy industry. The leading branch of agriculture is the production of wheat.

Question:  December, 1 is a holiday in our country, isn’t it?

P.10- Sanat:  December,1 is a holiday in our country . It is the President’s Day. We celebrate this holiday all over the country. Since April, 1990 the President of the Republic of  Kazakhstan has been Nursultan  Abishevich  Nazarbayev. Our President is a very educated person and he thinks about all people in Kazakhstan.
In 1991, Kazakhstan became independent. According to the Constitution, the president is the Head of State.

Question:   Astana is an amazing capital.

P.11 Zhanna

I think it is true. Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1997, is situated on a picturesque bank of the Ishim River. Astana has become one of the largest business centers in the region. It is a symbol of greatness of new Kazakhstan. The young capital — a symbol of creation, creativity and progress of Kazakhstan.

Astana population is about 692,000 (2010) on the territory of 722 sq. km.

What interesting sights are in Astana?

The Bayterek Tower has become the city’s symbol and its visiting card. The height of the structure is 105 meters. It symbolizes the year of the movement of the capital from  Almaty to Astana. It was designed by the British architect Sir Norman Foster, the monument is meant to embody a folktale about a mythical tree of life and a magic bird of happiness. Inside the globe we find a golden triangle with president Nazarbayev’s handprint in it.

Akorda — the seat of our government. Our president works there.

Khan Shatyry Entertainment Centre – the world’s biggest tent. Underneath the tent, an area larger than 10 football stadiums, with an  internal park, shopping centres, mini golf and indoor beach resort.

The Pyramid of Peace – it is the Palace of Peace and Concord. The pyramid is the symbol of unity of different religions, cultures and people. There is  a large glass dome with 130 doves symbolizing the people of Kazakhstan.

The modern capital of Kazakhstan grows and changes, becomes more and more attractive for inhabitants of Kazakhstan and foreign visitors. Astana became the pride of new Kazakhstan.  The future of Kazakhstan is  connected with the future of Astana  and now is  a new image of Kazakhstan .

Question: What  achievements of Kazakhstan do you know?

P.12 Madina:

OSCE

We should note the special role of Kazakhstan’s  chairmanship in the OSCE

Understanding the importance of a new role in international affairs, Kazakhstan as the OSCE chairman designated serious purposes. The first is to return political weight to the organization and to form an effective platform for the discussion and solution of international problems. The motto of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the OSCE, according to the President Nursultan Nazarbayev, had to become so-called “four «T»” — trust, tradition, transparency and tolerance.

The successful chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE has shown the West that the involvement of young post-Soviet states to active discussion and in the process of solving the largest political conflicts is possible and even desirable.
The chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE was a major achievement of the Kazakh diplomacy.

 Asiada

Asian Winter Games was a multi sporting event that was being held in Astana and Almaty. They began on January 30, 2011 and ended on February 6, 2011. It was the first time that Kazakhstan hosted such a large event.  For the first time  the Asian Winter Games were held in Central Asia. 1,500 athletes from 27 Asian countries came to Kazakhstan and competed for a record 69 sets of medals. 1. 13 Sain: The International Exposition EXPO — 2017

The biggest news for Kazakhstan is its capital’s victory to hold the International Exposition Expo-2017 after the election in Paris .

The exhibition will take place in summer 2017 and is expected to attract around 5 million visitors. The fact that Kazakhstan was chosen means  the successes of our state  and that the country is recognizable. The theme of the topic which we proposed “The Energy of the Future” helped us to win. The exhibition promises to become one of the most high-tech events of Astana. We will build the Expo in Astana and we will equip it with modern technologies. This is going to be one of the best brands of our new capital . And this event will once again make Kazakhstan famous all across the world.

In his address our president  said that the decision to hold the «Expo-2017» in Astana is a historic event.

Great attention is paid to the development of culture and education in Kazakhstan

P.14 Samat: We can say that Astana is an educational centre. There are many technical colleges, institutes and universities. The best known are: Euroasian University, Agrarian University, Nazarbayev University. Many young people from different regions of our country and from different countries come to Astana to get a brilliant education.

  1. 15 Gaukhar: I live in Petropavlovsk.

I study in Kazakh school gymnasium. I am going to tell you about my school. My school is new and modern and I like it very much. It has four floors. The classrooms are light and big. There are classrooms for different subjects, such as English, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology and  Literature .

There are some computer classes  in our school. We study computer science here. The computer class has the most modern equipment and the Internet access. Our school has a gymnasium and a sports ground. Many pupils are fond of sport and they have a good opportunity to go in for different sports there.

My school is new and nice and all  pupils like it very much. It is really home for everyone, who studies there.

Every nation  and every country  has its own  customs and traditions.  Kazakh people  have many national traditions, which are kept carefully and handed  from generation to generation. All traditions are connected  with the most important events  of people life

Question: What traditional  holidays of  Kazakhs  do you know?

P.16 Aidana: I think the most important holiday in our country is Naurys, the Kazakh New Year. It is one of the oldest holidays on Earth. Naurys is a spring holiday, celebrated on March, 22, when night and day are identical. During  Naurys people clean houses, streets, plant trees, congratulate each other with New Year. Everyone has to visit 7 houses, invite guests, give relatives  gifts and ask for forgiveness for past wrongs. The main traditional meal of the holiday is Naurys Kozhe. It is made of 7 components: meat, salt, fat, onions, wheat, kurt (a type of cheese) and irimshik (a kind of cottage cheese).  They symbolize joy, luck, wisdom, health and wealth. All grown-ups and children must eat kozhe or  taste it. In fact this kind of kozhe is a wish, a hope thatthe New Year will be successful. At the end of the meal you may sit and have tea and listen to  dombyras and sing Kazakh songs. One of the main features of Naurys is the traditional costumes that men and women wear.
